Hi, my name is Hope Chittom from Athens, Ga and I graduated from Lee University with a Marketing Degree. I enjoy hanging with my family and friends, running, traveling, and playing tennis. I am married to my best friend, David Chittom, and have the best mom, dad, and brother I could have asked for. While I am still unsure exactly what the Lord has called me to do with my life, I know I want to live a life that serves the Lord and the people around me.
I prayed that the Lord would set something in my heart that I can do right now to make an impact. As I was sitting in church, the Lord placed the idea of starting a non-profit candle company. I instantly thought of the word “shine” because from when I was a little girl until now, my dad has told me to “shine” everyday. When I think of the word “shine” it reminds me to be a light to those around me so that when people see me, they see the Lord. I hope you will take part in this mission that the Lord has called us to, which is to share His love and light to His People.
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and deep desire to help people. I became passionate about not only helping people but helping them learn to help themselves. Thank you for considering being a part of the Shine Candle story.
When I was made aware of the great need for computer labs in Siem Reap and surrounding village learning centers I knew this was a place we could help. These labs will allow students to learn software development, graphic, web design, marketing, and other computer skills that would give these well deserving young people an opportunity for a better life. All proceeds from candle sales will go directly to our partners at People for Care and Learning (PCL), “A community for good”, for the sole purpose of developing these Labs. PCL’s long term work is already deeply embedded into the people and culture of Southeast Asia since 2002.
